With the help of German music producers, "Burka Blue" (aka "Burqa Blue") was secretly recorded by a group of women living in Kabul. The doors to the studio were locked - after all, these Afghan singers risked their lives to describe how it feels to wear the restrictive clothing required by Islamic fundamentalism. These women are human rights heroes.
From the Qur’an (or Koran) Sura 4:34: "If you fear highhandedness from your wives, remind them (of Allah's teachings), then ignore them when you go to bed, then hit them. If they obey you, you have no right to act against them. God is most high and great."
The next brief clip is delicious drollery, from Fawza ...
"The thing women have yet to learn is nobody gives you power. You just take it." - Roseanne Barr
"Every religion oppresses women. I talk about the Koran because I know this book best. It allows for torture and other mistreatment, especially for women." - Taslima Nasrin, physician and poet
