Divide and Conquer ... It's a military strategy that predates the birth of Christ, and was mentioned by military genius Sun Tzu in The Art Of War. Deeply mired in the past, a condition symptomatic of social conservatism, the National Organation For Marriage (NOM) has employed this sinister tactic in its interminable assault against Marriage Equality. Leaders of the SPLC-designated hate group have been hiding more than a few dirty little secrets which the Human Rights Campaign recently uncovered. HRC had for some time been investigating NOM's illegal campaign finance practices, "irregularities" which surprised nobody familiar with the org's conscienceless leader Brian Brown (pictured above) - but even HRC officials were shocked by the release of court documents proving that the religious zealots at NOM had stooped to using a racist strategy in order to prevent committed same-sex couples from tying the knot.
Here are two excerpts from NOM's confidential communiques: “The strategic goal of this project is to drive a wedge between gays and blacks—two key Democratic constituencies. Find, equip, energize and connect African American spokespeople for marriage, develop a media campaign around their objections to gay marriage as a civil right; provoke the gay marriage base into responding by denouncing these spokesmen and women as bigots…" and then: "The Latino vote in America is a key swing vote, and will be so even more so in the future, both because of demographic growth and inherent uncertainty: Will the process of assimilation to the dominant Anglo culture lead Hispanics to abandon traditional family values? We must interrupt this process of assimilation by making support for marriage a key badge of Latino identity - a symbol of resistance to inappropriate assimilation."
Pam Spaulding checks for fleas on Pam's House Blend: NOM is getting beaten up badly in national and local media after HRC published internal strategy papers unsealed by a federal judge pitting the black and gay communities in his hate campaign to “protect marriage.” While NOM has enjoyed flying under the mainstream media for most of its history, the NYT and the San Francisco Chronicle hopped on this development... Maggie Gallagher continues fomenting the myth that the LGBT community is all-white (and apparently all liberal – has she not heard of GOProud or the Log Cabin Republicans?) ... I think it’s instructive to see this statement from the African American Ministers Leadership Council.
Freedom to Marry President Evan Wolfson released this statement: NOM has spent years working to drive wedges within communities across the nation, all the while claiming it does not ’hate’ anyone, gay or non-gay. Now exposure of NOM’s own strategy memos confirms that NOM will stop at nothing to push its agenda, pitting American against American, minority against minority, family members against family members. NOM’s wedge-strategy memos detail its campaign to funnel money to a handful of African-American clergy in order to attack gay couples and, appallingly, discredit the strong and clear voice of those African-American civil rights champions, such as John Lewis, Julian Bond, and Coretta Scott King, who have stood up for the freedom to marry and the equal civil rights of all people, including gay people of color.
Let the bigots at NOM keep pursuing their filthy schemes. Fair-minded citizens have started to notice the stench.
