Great story, Max. Hysterical... but the last part was kinda sad.

I can relate, I'm not welcome at family gatherings until I renounce my gayness. Like that's gonna happen.

Max. I love your writing. The shit/salt/pondwater/mud thing...SOoooooo glad you're back. Love Billy

I've been reading over your blog and like it a lot. Very insightful and up my alley. I grew up in Deep East Texas in a rural area, not just for the summer. However my summers were spent at Maw Maw's as well and we did much of the same stuff you described. I'll credit it with the times, but I'm in my early 30's and have met with a little better luck with bringing my partner home with me on the holidays and for birthdays and such. There are family members who pretty much ignore him and don't speak to me but there are more than enough who acknowledge us that I haven't cut any ties to the area. I don't have much to add, but wanted to say thanks for showing me there are others who had a similar upbringing and experience growing up.
