Florida Governor Charlie Crist, whose penchant for homo sex was revealed in the fim Outrage, has just announced that he is opposed to overturning the ban on gays serving openly in the US military. (Charlie enjoys living in the closet. He wants everyone to do it!)
Senator John McCain told conservative radio host Bill Bennett that he'd be "glad to listen to the views of military leaders" and then added "But I’m not changing my position in support of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell." McCain dismissed Admiral Mike Mullen's plea to repeal the policy as an "individual opinion." Matt Corley writes on Think Progress: In June of 2009, (McCain) told Ana Marie Cox that he originally supported the policy because General Colin Powell had "strongly recommended" it and he hadn’t "heard General Powell or any of the other military leaders reverse their position." Powell released a statement yesterday saying he now opposes the continuation of DADT because "attitudes and circumstances have changed." So basically, McCain is willing to “listen” to military leaders on DADT - he’s just not going to let their expert opinions get in the way of what he already thinks.
On Wednesday Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) assured MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell that he believes "there are very outstanding, patriotic gay people who serve in the military" and that "they shouldn’t have to lie about being gay," indicating that he supports lifting the ban. There must have been a wingnut eruption because the very next day he was back to pandering to the base: "I certainly do not support repealing this policy... (T)he views of the military officers and experts, whom I respect, have said that repealing Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell would "make life for our troops more difficult." (Sen. Hatch is another armchair general. Like John McCain, he only values opinions that mirror his own.)
Senator David 'Diaper' Vitter (R-LA) is hoping to overturn Marriage Equality in the District of Columbia. Vitter has co-sponsored a bill by Sen. Robert Bennett (R-UT) that would eventually roll back marriage rights granted by the D.C. City Council. (How hypocritical is that? GOPers constantly warn the government to stay out of local politics. But when duly elected officials pass a city ordinance they don't like, it's time to bring in the feds. The slimy, prostitute-loving Vitter is the last person on earth who should be talking about the "sanctity" of marriage.)
At the National Prayer Breakfast this week, President Obama spoke out against Uganda's proposed "Kill the Gays" law: "We may disagree about gay marriage, but surely we can agree that it is unconscionable to target gays and lesbians for who they are - whether it's here in the United States or, more extremely in odious laws that are being proposed, most recently in Uganda." (Imagine the crowd's reaction to those words. Or maybe they were sucking on grapefruits.) The yearly gathering is hosted by religious conservatives who regularly bash LGBT Americans in Jesus' name.
Rep. Howard Berman (D-CA) has introduced a bill condemning Uganda's treatment of its gay citizens.
Bryan Fisher of the American Family Association wants Congress to enact a measure that would force gays and lesbians to undergo "reparative treatment" for their sexual urges.
Actress Dakota Fanning will get a little girl-on-girl time with Kristen Stewart in the upcoming boipic of Joan Jett's band, The Runaways. Religious conservatives are having heart palpitations at the very idea.
Republicans in Iowa are devising new strategies to outlaw same-sex marriage, which was legalized by the State Supreme Court in 2009. Democratic leaders in both the House and the Senate are standing firm against any attempts to write discrimination into Iowa's constitution.
Air Force Staff Sgt. Benjamin Ford, who viciously attacked a gay man outside a pub in Hell's Kitchen, has been stripped of his rank by the military.
The American Civil Liberties Union is suing the city of Miami Beach over an incident in which police officers arrested a gay man who reported them for beating another gay man. This officers have been reassigned to desk duty.

Don't be messin' with Joan Jett! Best National Anthem singer the Baltimore Orioles ever had, ever, and she used to do it pretty often!
