Oliver North: Repealing DADT Invites Pedophiles to Serve

There are no sound arguments for supporting the military's ban on openly gay and lesbian service members.  But few public figures have so effectively tainted conservative oppostion to the policy as that discredited old war hawk, Oliver North.  Igor Volsky writes on Think Progress:  Last night, Oliver North, the retired U.S. Marine Corps officer-turned-Fox News contributor, appeared on Hannity’s America to condemn the administration’s decision to overturn "Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell."  North characterized Obama’s support for the repeal as a "stunning assault on the all-volunteer military, the very best in the world" and suggested that allowing gay and lesbian soldiers to serve openly was the tantamount to letting pedophiles into the military... The irony of a convicted felon who lied about diverting proceeds from arms sales to a rebel group in Nicaragua supporting a policy that forces gay and lesbian servicemen to lie about their sexual orientation was lost on both Hannity and North.

Here's what pious Ollie said to homophobe Hannity:  "Barack Obama now intents to treat them like lab rats in a radical social experiment, and it can be very, very detrimental.  In other words, this isn’t about rights.  This isn’t about fairness.  It’s all about national security. And apparently, Mr. Obama has forgotten it. … Now, here’s what’s next.  NAMBLA [North American Man/Boy Love Association] members, same-sex marriages.  Are chaplains in the U.S. military going to be required to perform those kinds of rituals?  Do they get government housing?"

Ellen writes on NewsHounds:  It seems to me that even if you don’t want to allow gays serving with you in the military, the scenario painted by North would suggest most soldiers have more to worry about than the sexual proclivities of their fellow troops. And that is born out by polls which have found that military members and their families as well as the public at large support the repeal.  That information was not given to the "we report, you decide" network's viewers.  (Of course not.  That would be *gasp* "fair" and "balanced.")

Right wingnuts love dancing to the Slippery Slope Rag - and they're always ready to embrace a criminal or serial adulterer as long as he shows up with a Bible tucked under each arm.  Of course Faux News isn't known for seeking out reputable talking heads.  Take Sarah Palin.  Please.

Oliver North sold arms to a country that invaded soverign American soil. Embassys are the soverign soil of that Embassy's country.

He has proven he has not moral judgement.

He committed the most heinous act that any traitor can, he armed an enemy. Why hasn't he been tried for treason and shot?
