Kristin Maguire is chair of the South Carolina State Board of Education. She's a religious conservative who promotes creationism and "abstinence only" sex education. And, the poor dear, she's just been caught writing hardcore pornographic stories online. So what's a smokin' hot mama to do? Well, she steps down from her post and cites "family difficulties" as the reason.
From FitsNews: Kristin Maguire, an Upstate evangelical and one of South Carolina’s most respected social conservatives, has been one of the governor’s closest education policy advisors for years... What else is she? The prolific author of hardcore erotic fiction on the Internet, according to documents provided to the governor’s office earlier this summer and later obtained by FITS. Maguire, a professed Christian who home-schools her four children, declined to comment for our story but did not deny that she had previously frequented websites that feature such X-rated material. Maguire believes that a former friend is leaking the information to the media in an effort to ruin her political career. As for the specific writings alleged to have flowed from Maguire’s pen, most have been deleted from the Internet. (But not all of them.) FITS was able to use conversations in various Internet chat rooms, however, to link at least two “erotic stories” to Maguire’s alleged pen name, “Bridget Keeney.” From there, numerous similarities between “Bridget” and Maguire emerged, including commonalities in age, geographic location, engineering background, hobbies (knitting, for example) and number of children. One comment left in an erotic chat room by “Bridget” even reveals the name of a professor who was at Clemson University’s College of Engineering at the time when Maguire was a student there, while another comment references a specific medical procedure that Maguire underwent several years ago.
You might think, as I did, her stories can't be that naughty. She's an evangelical Christian entrusted with the welfare of South Carolina's school children. Perhaps Maguire pens bodice ripper fiction, y'know, where the Earl of Buttocks seduces a hapless milkmaid? Something like that? Let's look at a passage from one of her stories (preserved for all eternity in .pdf format): The train entered a tunnel, plunging the cabin into total darkness. All that existed for me was Joren’s huge, hard dick in my mouth and my throbbing p***y being f**cked with Erik’s fingers. The scent of sex and our moans filled the car. The three of us rocked in time to the train on the tracks. When Joren pinched my nipples, my walls convulsed around Erik’s fingers, my climax ripping through me. My whole body shook with pleasure as I groaned deeply and sucked harder at Joren’s delicious dick. No sooner did I climax than he bucked up into my face, his balls drawing up and his shaft swelling even bigger. I pulled myself back from almost blacking out and gripped his thighs as he splashed his cum into my mouth. Again, I swallowed rapidly, devouring his cock and cum at once. There was so much cum that it leaked out around my mouth, but I don’t think Joren minded. The train pulled into the open again as Joren’s cock and my p***y stopped twitching.
Did I mention that Maguire thinks it's a sin to teach evolution in public schools?

LOL - This woman preaches abstinence education and writes stuff like that? Too friggin' funny.

Maybe she can get a job writing for Hustler magazine.

OK, so she's a horn dog. There is nothing in those writings which conflict with the contention that minors shouldn't have sex. The creationist belief is also unrelated to her penchant for porn. Some people are getting a little desperate in the attempt to reveal Christians as hypocrites. Many professing Christians are hypocrites, but so are many non-Christians and ex-Christians (a particularly vociferous group).
I think we should be more concerned about freedom of speech rights and personal freedoms here. It's not reasonable to suggest that the SC Education Board was damaged or its mission imperiled by Maguire's anonymous online activities. She didn't even write the stories under her own name. How far do we want to go in outing and "exposing" people who have weird, but entirely legal hobbies?

Fred, hypocrites come in many shapes and sizes, but in this case, we're talking about someone a) in charge of children's education, b) with a very specific ideology from her religious beliefs. The very fact that this excerpt involves sex with multiple partners is in conflict with monogamy, which for serious Christians is a pretty big deal.
It's not a question of legality, it's a question of consistency in message, and she clearly loses on that. It's not that she's specifically a Christian, it's that there is strong dissonance/conflict between her "secret"/"anonymous" interests and the interests she is responsible for in the public sphere.

Maguire promotes abstinence until marriage, and after marriage, then monogamy - so unless those two dudes on the train were BOTH her husbands, she's preaching one thing and then teaching something else - and it doesn't take a "stretch" to make her a hypocrite. She IS one. Nothing desperate about it. Here's why it matters. Because religious right orgs are working overtime to legislate morality (like with condoms, women's reproductive issues), deny rights to GLBT folk, and bring their Christian beliefs into the classrooms - and that effects EVERYONE. No one cares what her legal hobbies are as long as she's not using her VERY PUBLIC POSITION to shape policy and judge other people. Then it matters, and her x-rated stories become fair game.

Hello,
While I generally take delight in catching judgmental individuals in acts of hypocrisy, I find all of this a wee bit sad. Here is a sexually adventurous woman who is being forced to hide a very important part of her self from those she cares about.
For the record, there is no rational reason Kristin Maguire could not continue to function as chair of the South Carolina State Board of Education and continue to sexually express herself through her online fiction. Maquires’ fictional fantasies are no different than any other form of unconventional sexual expression. As long as her actions do not unduly impose upon the free will of another then she should be free to do as she pleases.
Her status within her religious community is a whole other issue. I am willing to assume that they won’t show too much sympathy.
Regards and Best Wishes,

My opinion for what it is worth. She is one of the religious right who wants to control the private lives of others. As a retired teacher I resent those who oppose teaching scientifically and demand creationism or ID. She wants us to teach abstinence only?
I don't care what she writes. It is her right to compose whatever she wants.
But I surely do have a right to very much resent it. I think that we should call out people who demand certain religious ritualistic behavior for others...and then think they can freely do whatever they wish.
They demand we obey their rules, but they don't obey their own rules.
I am a recovering Southern Baptist who is tired of hypocrisy.
Good write-up, Max.

If your thoughts and what you say does not match, you get these situations.
It's sad she has to hide her sexuality. Good luck lady!

"It's sad she has to hide her sexuality."
Thanks to people like her a lot of gays in South Carolina have to hide their sexuality, too. None of this would mean a thing if the religious right didn't use their precious bible to condemn others. But if you belong to a group that says sex is only permitted in marriage - and then you write about 3-ways on a train, it should be noted.

I don't care what she writes, it's fine with me. But she should have been fired for incompetence just for thinking teaching evolution is a sin.

Maybe now she can pursue her true calling-- writing. And it's one less person in a 'position of power' (heh) to force their prejudices on others.
It's just a matter of time before the christian right starts promoting 'abstinence from education.'

If she wrote this anonymously, how was she found it?
I'd quite like to read the rest of the story - how do you find it online?

Stefanie, you can click on the word "one" in the text of the post and that will take you to the story. -max
