There's a Baptist minister in Tempe, Arizona, who makes Oklahoma Rep. Sally Kern look like Kathy Griffin. Reverend Steven L. Anderson is telling his parishioners that gays and lesbians should be executed because that's what God wants. Pam Spaulding has posted a video of the conservative Christian calling for the murder of "faggots" in one of his sermons. Kyle at Right Wing Watch transcribed this from the audio of another sermon:
You want to know who the biggest hypocrite in the world is? The biggest hypocrite in the world is the person who believes in the death penalty for murderers and not for homosexuals. Hypocrite. The same God who instituted the death penalty for murderers is the same God who instituted the death penalty for rapists and for homosexuals - sodomites, queers! That's what it was instituted for, okay? That's God, he hasn't changed. Oh, God doesn't feel that way in the New Testament ... God never "felt" anything about it, He commanded it and said they should be taken out and killed.
Why? Because the sodomites are infectious, that's why. Because they're not reproducers, that goes without saying, they're recruiters. And you know who they're after? Your children. Remember you dropped off your kids last week? That's who they're after. You drop them off as some day care, you drop them off as some school somewhere, you don't know where they're at. I'll tell you where they're at: they're being recruited by the sodomites. They're being molested by the sodomites... They recruit through rape. They recruit through molestation. They recruit through violation. They are infecting our society. They are spreading their disease. It's not a physical disease, it's a sin disease, it's a wicked, filthy sin disease and it's spreading on a rampage. Can't you see that it's spreading on a rampage? I mean, can you not see that? Can you not see that it's just exploding in growth? Why? Because each sodomite recruits far more than one other sodomite because his whole life is about recruiting other sodomites, his whole life is about violating and hurting people and molesting 'em.
Has any Baptist Church stepped up and condemned Anderson's loathsome speech? Nope. If a Christian minister from any mainstream denomination called for the murder of African-Americans, wouldn't there be a public outcry? If a preacher was advocating the extermination of Jews, would his sermons be greeted with silence?
What does this man have to do before he's censured by his fellow Baptists? Hand out guns with the directions to houses where gay folks live?

Yet another tiresome member of "our" Taliban. Note that one does not hear pages turning as he tells his flock to turn to a certain passage, nor any "amens" to his crazed screed... hopefully this maggot is preachin' to himself, and not poisoning anyone else.

I wonder if Mr Anderson could tell me if the god calling for execution of Gay people would be the same god who commanded Christians 'Thou Shalt not Kill'?
I guess Mr Anderson must be a fan of that convenient 11th Commandment: Thou shalt omit any of the previous 10 to suite thy self.
Now THAT is a hypocrite.

Sick, disgusting. I clicked on that link and watched the video of him preaching his hate. I could only take about three minutes of it before I wanted to hurl. The man belongs in a straight jacket. A "gay" jacket wouldn't have him.

This is the same guy who a few months ago was a schmuck to border control and continues to peddle the story of how he was beaten up by the cops.

The genocidal pastor is an Independant Baptist. This means his Church is not part of a larger Baptist denomination, and we cannot get any superiors to put pressure on him. The Independent Baptist churches ALL preach against homosexuality, although usually not so vehemently or publically.
But we can get the video removed from YouTube by flagging it as hate speech if enough people do it, as hate speech against LGBT people is illegal on YouTube. We can also try to get him banned by reporting him at:
http://www.youtube.com/safety_...
(it's a bit of work - I had to wade through 420 videos before I got to "The Truth About the Sodomites"). That will show him that, at least in the larger world, what he is doing is hate speech.

The point isn't that they should put pressure on him but they SHOULD speak out against him. Hold a press conference and announce that's not their position - and that he is wrong, wrong, wrong.

Estraven: I'd like to know how you get on with your attempt to get it flagged and removed for hate speech because I flagged the National Organization Marriage channel over their 'Gathering Storm' ad and made it clear that I was pulling all my own video's until that channel was kicked off You Tube but sadly no success yet (5 months later). I still refuse to re-load my video's and add any more until NOM is gone.
I hope you have more luck :). If you get the same lame response from YT that I did, maybe taking a cue from other people and posting video's that parody and ridicule him like the have done with NOM will do the trick.

We at BiNET USA have been very successful at getting various biphobic and homophobic videos and people removed from YouTube. YouTube seems to dislike people being harrassed, so what works best is having a lot of people click thumbs-down next to the troll's video comments and mark them as spam. We have gotten trolls suspended over night that way. If they make another account and come back twice within six months their computer is permanently banned. Reporting trolls is less effective, because YouTube is less bothered by people just sitting there in their channel and not going out and harrassing people, but I hope if enough people report this guy he will be suspended.
We have gotten videos removed in half an hour if enough people flagged them.
It is not worth the time to argue with a troll; they need their hate. The energy is better spent in shutting down their means of communication. Queer Action Alerts has figured out how to shut down his Website. You can see how at:
http://queeractionalerts.wetpaint.com/page/Pastor+Steven+Anderson
Again, BiNET USA has successfully done both in the past with other haters (shut down their hate Website and gotten them off YouTube) when enough people participated.

Thanks for the info, Estaven. I keep flagging the video's and all comments supporting them, as do my friends so I guess it's just a case of plugging away until we get rid of them.

Not to be a "bad liberal", but...if someone like Steven L. Anderson ever sets foot in this dyke's house, he's the one who'll get a bullet between the eyes. Thank God for the 2nd Amendment.

Lock this guy up in a mental hospital and give him so much medication that he forgets who he is and never remembers.

Homophobia has been proven to be associated with homosexuality. The reason he thinks homosexuality is "infectious" is because he's a homosexuality (he has felt the temptation). Suppressed homosexuality leads to homophobia.
As someone who's tried to be gay (well, bisexual), I can tell you it's not a choice; just as it's not for gay people who try to be straight.

I really DONT think you should try and get this guy removed from Youtube. His ranting does more to highlight the twisted bitterness and hatred in the right wing fundy camp than anything the liberal amongst us might say. He is his own worst enemy and should be left there so that people can see just how nasty he and his type are.
And - although it has been said before - as a free thinking liberal who believes in equality I disagree with everything he has to say but would neverheless defend his right to say it.

I doubt that any Baptist Pastor advocated the killing of Homosexuals. It's more likely that you twisted his words. Liberals have been known to lie! It is not the position of Jesus Christ, nor of 99.99% of Christians that Homos should be exterminated. A much higher % of Homos would like for Christians to be exterminated. It is the position of Jesus Christ that all sinners must turn from sin, and accept Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. Otherwise, they will be summonsed to the resurrection of damnation, be judged before the White Throne of God, and cast alive into Fire Lake along with those angels who rebelled long ago.

Hmmm wonder how many children this guy has touched and molested himself, Oh wait it states SOMEWHERE in the bible that is ok for a man of God to touch a little boy, but is wrong for two men or women or love each other to have a relationship. This guy will most definently burn in HELL.

I think getting the video removed from YouTube is totally the wrong thing to do. As anyone with an ounce of common sense viewing him, will no doubt be horrified. Leave the video alone, he is hanging himself. Let him swing.

@Chris Burleson
There appears to be something very wrong with your ability to listen and comprehend spoken English. There is absolutely no way that a person with an IQ above 100 and an unbiased mind could possible twist this guy's words so that he looks like he is saying that homosexuals should NOT be killed in the name of his version of the Christian god.
I won't accuse you of lying, or even of being stupid. I won't even accuse you of being insane. I think the most likely explanation is that your religion has so messed up your mind that you mis-classify hatred and evil as goodness and light and cannot distinguish between right and wrong. You are an excellent example of the serious damage which religion can do a person's normal moral development.

so where do lesbians fit into it all?
Posted by: misandry | January 02, 2010 at 06:33 AM
Well, looking at Mr Anderson, he LOOKS gay, so maybe he's just got some real issues.....give it a year, he'll come out and that'll be another nail in the coffin for the church.

Rape as a recruiting tool. Yeah, that'll work every time!
