... by gluing their anuses shut and inducing diarrhea.
Although America spends billions each month on the "new Democratic" Iraq, we apparently don't have any control over the human rights abuses going on in that country.
From the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission: The following is a translation of a story from Alarabiya, a UAE-based media network, which was published on its Arabic website a few hours ago...
"A prominent Iraqi human rights activist says that Iraqi militia have deployed a painful form of torture against homosexuals by closing their anuses using 'Iranian gum.' ... Yina Mohammad told Alarabiya.net that the 'Iraqi militias have deployed an unprecedented form of torture against homosexuals by using a very strong glue that will close their anus.' According to her, the new substance 'is known as the American hum, which is an Iranian-manufactured glue that if applied to the skin, sticks to it and can only be removed by surgery. After they glue the anuses of homosexuals, they give them a drink that causes diarrhea. Since the anus is closed, the diarrhea causes death. Videos of this form of torture are being distributed on mobile cellphones in Iraq.' According to this human rights activist, for the past 3 weeks a crackdown on homosexuals has been going on based on a religious decree that demands their death; dozens have been targeted. She says that the persecution of homosexuals is not confined to the Shiite clerics. Some Sunni leaders have also declared the death penalty for sodomy on satellite channels."
From Think Progress: The Iraqi defense ministry reported earlier this month that six gay men were shot dead in a Shia-controlled part of Baghdad. "Two of the bodies, found on Thursday, had pieces of paper attached on which was written the word 'Pervert.'" According to the source in the Al Arabiya article, "for the past 3 weeks a crackdown on homosexuals has been going on based on a religious decree that demands their death; dozens have been targeted."
And this is the "freedom" we brought to Iraq. For this our brave soldiers sacrificed their lives. It's sickening.

All we succeeded in doing in Iraq is instituting a theocratic dictatorship. This has been known for some years, after they started making women wear veils again or die. Iraq *was* secular and women had equal rights and worked. All that is long gone. Of course, our government is such good friends with the Saudis, is it any surprise?

This is one of those things that will never make the main stream news because it would make them too uncomfortable to report about.

Thank you for dying for this, boys and girls. Thought we were just being (theoretically) slowly being poisoned by shit here. Now we are inducing the reality over there. Lovely. Now anarchy doesn't seem so crazy does it...

Most of humanity in the name of God (Christian, Muslim, take your pick) over the past 5000 years has been torturing and slaughtering gays. This is nothing new to Iraq, or much of the world.
Under Saddam's rule a gay man would have been treated no better.

Actually, homosexuality was legal in Iraq, under Saddam (by legal I mean it wasn't against the law) until July 2001. They were still hated, and probably even killed at times, however it was not officially sanctioned.

This is according to one human rights activist? I would like to see more information being presented, and if possible by more than one individual.
Homosexuality has been hated for centuries, and although the U.S. does not physically torture gays we have yet to offer them some basic rights, like marriage. It seems that the entire world is behind on accepting homosexuality.

WW 2 prisoners of war of the Japanese had an open ended can containing a rat affixed to their naked stomach while others were suspended in the prone position above quickly growing bamboo that slowly penetrated the stomach. Torture for all offences fully covered in Michael Foucault's Discipline And Punishment.
