An employee of Focus on the Family has been arrested after he used the Internet to solicit sex with a minor. From the Denver Post: Juan Alberto Ovalle, 42, thought he was corresponding with a girl under the age of 15, but instead it was an undercover officer with the Jefferson County district attorney's office, according to court documents. Ovalle works for a Spanish-speaking arm of the Colorado Springs Christian group Focus on the Family and narrates Biblical text for CDs, according to Internet websites that sell the products.
One of those websites provides some backstory: Juan Alberto Ovalle, born in the Dominican Republic, came to know the Lord at the age of 14. (Just like Ovalle strategized to Come To Know a similarly-aged Jefferson County girl. Perhaps this was his way of recapturing that earlier spiritual ecstasy.) He has served as pastor and preacher in his country, the USA and other countries in Latin-America since he was 19. (One wonders how many young girls he's lured into sex during his stellar career as a Professional Christian.) Juan Alberto served Trans World Radio ministry and also the Spanish broadcasting department of Focus on the Family. (And we all know what high moral standards Daddy Dobson's group promotes.)
From the Colorado Independent: After first encountering the officer who was posing as a 15-year-old girl on the Internet last week, Orvalle made “sexually graphic statements in a chat room to a person he believed to be an underage teen,” the district attorney’s office said in a release. When the undercover officer said her mom wouldn’t be home the next day, Orvalle said he was “horny” and made arrangements to come to her house, according to an arrest affidavit.
Ovalle has been charged with attempted sexual assault on a child and luring a child over the Internet. Both crimes are felonies. Gary Schneeberger, a spokesman with FOTF said, "We're shocked." (Shocked!) Since the folks at Focus on the Family spend their days and nights (and their followers' money) railing against other people's "sexual perversions," it's amazing that anyone in that organization would be surprised to discover a pedophile in their midst. Their "focus" has never been on families, but on sex. Sex sex sex sex sex. Instead of demonizing gays and fretting about what goes on in other people's bedrooms, maybe they should spend some time Coming To Know their own employees.
