One of the wags over at ChatEVO suggests this yummy treat to serve holiday guests who have a sweet tooth. It's a way-too-realistic looking confection called Kitty Litter Cake.
Message board member Diane assures us that: "It is really quite tasty! It is a white cake & spice cake baked and crumbled together and then mixed with vanilla pudding. You then crush vanilla wafer cookies, mix with a little green food coloring and sprinkle that on top. But the Tootsie Rolls are the pièce de résistance. (It goes without saying that the litter box and scooper/server are brand new.)"
I should certainly hope so. I do think that the newspapers under the tray are a nice touch.
Frankly I had never heard of this dessert before - but that's not particularly surprising since I'm a dreadful cook and don't spend much time in the kitchen. Even so, I might break down and try my hand at creating this for, y'know, certain relatives who despair over my lack of culinary skills. You can find exact recipes for the cat poop cake here and here.
And on a tenuously related topic... Is it just me or has Top Chef's Gail Simmons been indulging in more than the usual bite-sized-portions served up by aspiring hash slingers on Bravo's reality series? (Not that there's anything wrong with a curvy figure. We can't all look like Padma.) Truth is, I kinda like this show. Martha Stewart and actress Natasha Richardson were guest judges on this week's nail biting episode - and to hear host Tom Colicchio tell it, your fingernails are probably tastier than the dishes whipped up by TC's remaining dozen contestants during their "Twelve Days of Christmas" challenge. I was disappointed when the chef whose entrée was inspired by "Five Golden Rings" didn't prepare a plate of glorious onion rings, as I'd I hoped, but some fish, pineapple, and coconut concoction that had Richardson almost gagging into her napkin. Still, Bravo's program is infinitely more enjoyable than Fox's Hell's Kitchen where viewers get to watch chef Gordon Ramsay scream at contestants for fifty minutes or so each week, not counting commercials. This concludes my first and final cooking-themed post.

I've made the kitty litter cake a bunch of times!! It's REALLY good..... although the easily squeamish always seem to pass it by for something more easily identifiable.
