A Roman Catholic priest at St. Mary's Church in Greenville, South Carolina has been telling his parishioners that they shouldn't take Holy Communion if they voted for Barack Obama because the Democratic president-elect supports abortion, and supporting him "constitutes material cooperation with intrinsic evil."
Father Jay Scott Newman distributed a letter to his flock informing them that if they take Holy Communion before doing penance for voting Democratic, they'll be putting their eternal souls at risk. The letter goes on to say: "Our nation has chosen for its chief executive the most radical pro-abortion politician ever to serve in the United States Senate or to run for president. Voting for a pro-abortion politician when a plausible pro-life alternative exists constitutes material cooperation with intrinsic evil, and those Catholics who do so place themselves outside of the full communion of Christ's Church and under the judgment of divine law."
So let's take a peek inside Father Newman's confessional...
- Bless me, Father, for I have sinned.
- How long has it been since your last confession?
- I dunno, maybe a month.
- Proceed.
- I cheated on my wife and when she confronted me I smacked her in the face.
- That was not a very Christian thing to do, my son.
- She deserved it, but I guess I shouldn't have hit her. I was drinking heavily that day and I lost my temper.
- We all lose our temper from time to time. Is that all you have to confess?
- Yeah, I guess so.
- Say twelve Hail Marys and ask God to help you control your anger.
******
- Bless me, Father, for I have sinned.
- How long has it been since your last confession?
- It's been two weeks.
- Go ahead.
- I voted for Barack Obama because I feel he can help working class families like mine during these tough economic times. I also believe he will help our country regain its standing in the international community and bring an end to the Iraq War.
- When you voted for him did you know that he's pro-abortion?
- I don't think he's pro-abortion, Father. He just believes there are ways to reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies without forcing women to seek out back-alley abortions.
- My son, I cannot absolve you of this grievous sin unless you're sorry you voted for Obama. Otherwise, God will turn his back on you and you'll be denied His Holy Sacrament. Without the sacrament you'll burn in hell along with all the other Democrats. You don't want that, do you?
- Not particularly... (continued, after the jump)
- Then you must recognize your grave error and convince me that you're truly sorry for helping elect Barack Hussein Obama.
- But I'm not.
- Then you're wasting my time.
- Okay I'm sorry.
- You don't sound sorry.
- I should have voted the way The Church wants me to vote.
- You still don't sound sorry.
- Please, I need to go to the toilet.
- You can't go to the toilet until you've convinced me that you are contrite. I just went to the toilet so I'm good for another hour. How about you?
- Please, Father...
- Don't "Please Father" me. You voted the wrong way and you must ask Our Lord and Savior for forgiveness.
- I'm sorry. I'm so sorry I voted for Obama.
- Would you do it again?
- No. I promise.
- How can I possibly believe you? A person who would vote for Obama is not the sort of person who would keep his promises.
- Father, my eyes are floating.
- Discomfort isn't always a bad thing. Consider your suffering as a sacrifice to God. Just offer it up.
- I'm really really really sorry I voted for Obama.
- Now I sense desperation in your voice. Are you prepared to atone for your electoral sins?
- Yes Father, I am.
- Then say fifty Our Fathers, two hundred Hail Marys, and recite the Act Of Contrition twenty-four times before relieving your bladder. On your way out of the church don't forget to light a candle to the memory of Blessed Monica, the Patron Saint of Patience.
UPDATE: And now there are protesters.

No wonder people are leaving the Catholic Church. I grew up a Catholic and I couldn't stand how controling the church was... and the nuns at the parochial school I attended were monsters.

Glad to see the catholic church taking such a strong stance. Too bad they didn't during the Holocaust. But I guess they care more about the unborn than all those Jewish people murdered through their complacency.
