Fox News personality Sean Hannity calls conservative talk show host Bill Cunningham "a great American." Apparently in Hannity World, great Americans heap scorn on those less fortunate than themselves. Cunningham's contempt for our disadvantaged citizenry mirrors the views held by many Republican officials, as evidenced by the GOP's constipated party platform. On his radio program yesterday, Cunningham railed, "People are poor in America, not because they lack money; they're poor because they lack values, morals, and ethics. And if government can't teach and instill that, we're wasting our time simply giving poor people money." For good measure he added, "Unlike many countries in the world, we have fat poor people. We don't have skinny poor people. Ours are fat and flatulent."
So, uh, what you're saying, Bill, is that poor people are moral degenerates who fart too much? Sweet. How dare those nasty liberals accuse conservatives of not being compassionate. (FYI, Bill. People who are financially strapped can't afford to eat the sort of foods that you enjoy. And a diet of beans and rice cause flatulence.)
