The man who orchestrated George W. Bush's successful campaign strategies (which led to eight years of executive mismanagement and failed policies) has been busily spinning webs behind-the-scenes in John McCain's presidential bid.
Although kingmaker Karl Rove has vigorously denied working on the Arizona senator's behalf, a new report from The Hill indicates otherwise: "A GOP operative said Rove has had a consistent, medium-sized role with the McCain campaign. Another senior Republican official said Rove has good relationships with several of McCain’s senior advisers, and it’s not unusual for him to reach out to them."
You'll recall that when McCain lost the South Carolina primary in 2000, he accused Bush of pitching a “negative message of fear” - a message spun and promulgated by Karl Rove. Now that McCain needs this fear-mongering and negativity to rally the right-wingers, he's more than willing to let Rove work his dark magic - y'know, for the "greater good?" Anyone who's seen John McCain's attack ads (like "The One") can recognize Rove's handiwork. Anyone who watched the GOP convention could discern the smarmy Man Behind The Curtain.
We had hoped things would be different this time around. But McCain has been drawn into the right-wing's vortex of hate and divisiveness. If America elects this man as our President, we will be sucked down with him.
