According to the latest numbers released from the U.S. Census Bureau, over 37 million Americans are living in poverty. That's six times the population of John McCain's home state of Arizona. Brian Levine writes from Wonk Room: "Visitors to JohnMcCain.com can learn where the Republican nominee stands on the Second Amendment, 'liberal judicial activists' - even the space program. While John McCain 'understands the importance of investing in key industries such as space,' he apparently does not understand the importance of helping the 37.3 million Americans living in poverty right here on Planet Earth."
Not surprisingly, the Republican presidential nominee supports more tax cuts for wealthy corporations, saying, "I don’t want to take any money from the rich. I want everybody to get rich!" Who knows? Maybe in Conservative DreamWorld that might happen. After all, John McCain - giddily cruising down a certain river in Egypt - has already said that he believes the U.S. economy is "strong." And legions of GOPers, nodding like plastic dog heads on a dashboard, seem to agree with that assessment. But for millions of Americans who struggle just to make ends meet, McCain's vision of prosperity is insensitive. To the working familes who have just lost their homes or health insurance, it's tragically shortsighted. And to those 37 million citizens actually living in poverty, it's downright insulting.

The following is a point I recently made to a friend regarding our choices in this election:
As I see it, we have two choices (obviously), we can have a guy who is young, energetic, brilliant, a good family man, and just happens to be half black (which also, according to my version of arithmatic, makes him half white) OR we can have an old, mentally unstable, still believes Czechoslovakia is a nation, a POW who endured torture for years (which lends credence to the mental instability issue..and as a matter of fact was shot down while dropping weaponry on civilians...that's my kind of hero! Alvin York or Audie Murphy he ain't), calls his wife a "****" in public, makes sick jokes about rape and bombing innocent people and wants to ensure that we all die poor, except for "his" friends and family. I may be one sick puppy, but everytime I see McCain the mental image of that little Vietnamese girl standing naked in the road while escaping a good, healthy napalming comes to mind. Funny how in Bush/McCain-World everything is upside down.
As Lewis Black, my favorite ranting comedian, might say: "Son of a Bitch! How can I make a choice based on such thin information?" : ) In the end, the American people will get the government they deserve...God help us but it is true.
