He was a terrible choice for Al Gore, but BFF Joe Leiberman would be a grand VP selection for John McCain.
Let's count the many reasons why progressives should root for a McCain/Lieberman ticket:
- The far righties would have a cow because of Leiberman's pro choice stance (although I think go-with-the-flow Joe would abandon that view -- and any other principles -- for a VP shot).
- The ticket's combined age would be about 140 -- a surefire draw for that college and 20-something demographic.
- It's always wise to select a number two dude who is widely viewed as a traitor to his party (even if it is the opposition party, extreme betrayal is really not an attractive trait).
- Could you find a bigger fawning toady ? (Oh yeah, there's Lindsey Graham, but he can't deliver the Jewish Boca vote).
Attack Dog for McCain? More like Droopy. And the Number One reason to hope for Joe is: That droning, monotone, mega-whining voice would ensure no one --left or right -- could listen to him for the duration of the campaign, much less for 4 years as the Vice President.
We think the Associated Press had it correct in its inadvertent description of Lieberman this a.m. They wrote:
Less traditional choices mentioned include former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge, an abortion-rights supporter, and Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman, the Democratic vice presidential prick in 2000 who now is an independent.
Too funny.

Perfect combo, as I opined on kos: The Putz and the Schmuck.
I'll leave it to the smarty pants around here to figure which is which, or if it matters.

Better to have a combined age of 140 on the ticket than vote for the party that can't even stay under-budget on its own convention.
Al Gore, one of the keynote speakers, has a carbon footprint larger than half of Long Island as he preaches about climate change. Tell me who is more ridiculous?
