It appears that the state of Arkansas - echoing John McCain's position - prefers its unwanted and special needs children living in orphanages and taxpayer funded institutions rather than being cared for by financially stable same-sex couples.
From 365.com: "Arkansas’s Child Welfare Agency Review Board had established a policy in 1999 that banned gay people from serving as foster parents, and the Arkansas Supreme Court struck it down after a seven-year legal battle between the state and the ACLU... In its unanimous ruling, the court said testimony in the state’s appeal demonstrated that the driving force behind adoption of the regulations was not to promote the health, safety and welfare of foster children but rather based upon the board’s views of morality and its bias against homosexuals."
Well, that wasn't good enough for the "Christian" folks at the Arkansas Family Council Action Committee who busily gathered enough signatures to put the measure back onto the upcoming November ballot, where right wingers can once again vote to deny children loving homes due to their own prejudices and church-fueled homophobia. It's worth noting that the 1999 ban that was overturned only outlawed gays as foster parents. This new bill's longer reach would make it illegal for same-sex couples to adopt children as well.

That just makes me sick. Frickin' fundies!
