First, he was against it.
Then he wasn't.
Now he just wants people not to ask him about it.
Of course, the traditional media would never point out that their BFF John McCain has changed his position on gay adoption and now is ducking the issue.
In the New York Times two weeks ago, McCain said he was definitely opposed to gay adoption: “I think that we’ve proven that both parents are important in the success of a family so, no, I don’t believe in gay adoption.”
The very next day – as his statements were criticized by a number of gay rights organizations – his campaign rushed to recast his remarks. “John McCain could have been clearer in the interview in stating that his position on gay adoption is that it is a state issue, just as he made it clear in the interview that marriage is a state issue,’’ Tucker Bounds, a campaign spokesman, said in a statement.“He was not endorsing any federal legislation.’
And yesterday, during John McCain's appearance on ABC's This Week host George Stephanopoulos pressed him on whether or not McCain supported gay adoption. McCain, in yet another spectacularly incoherent performance, avoided the question, saying his "position" is not why he is running for president. He then says that while it is "important" to emphasize family values, he hopes people understand that it is "very important" to realize that we have other challenges. His next sentence, however, is "I'm running for president of the United States because I want to help with family values." McCain ultimately refused to say whether or not he supported gay adoption despite being asked several times by Stephanopoulos. You may watch the fumbling and bumbling here.
