McCain's 100 Million Dollar Barbie

39114Normally we'd be inclined to leave John McCain's wife to her shopping sprees and hair product. But since the right-wing has been busy spreading lies about Michelle Obama, it's only fair to comment on the McBabe. (Cindy's Hotness is legend, dontcha know.) The Arizona native brought more than curves and a blinding smile to the McCain union. She also wedded him to her vast personal fortune. Not that there's anything wrong that. But for the Republican presidential candidate to pretend that his spouse can empathize with the country's disadvantaged, or "feel the pain" of a struggling middle class, is ludicrous.

Huffington Post writes, "As heiress to her father's stake in Hensley & Co. of Phoenix, Cindy McCain is an executive whose worth may exceed $100 million. Her beer earnings have afforded the GOP presidential nominee a wealthy lifestyle with a private jet and vacation homes at his disposal, and her connections helped him launch his political career..."  (Read it here.)   Politico wisely assesses things: "Now, the GOP is reaping what it sowed. Having established a recent precedent for increased scrutiny of spousal finances, the party now finds its own presumptive nominee, John McCain, under an unwanted spotlight over the fortune of his wife, Cindy... John McCain’s presidential campaign benefited from Cindy McCain’s fortune, using a legal loophole to travel the country in a jet owned by her company for cut-rate fares." (Read it here.)  And Yahoo News notes: "Their credit card bills peaked between January 2007 and May 2008, during which time Cindy McCain charged as much as $500,000 in a single month on one American Express card and $250,000 on another."  (Must be nice. Read it here.)  And there's a checkered past that haunts Barbieville, which main stream media outlets continue to ignore even though most people now know that Mrs. McCain stole drugs from her own charitable foundation to feed her addiction. Salon Magazine examined that way back in 1999.  (Read it.)

You'd think conservative Republicans would refrain from - or even tone down - their hateful attacks on Senator Obama's wife.  You'd think they wouldn't want to go there.  But right-wingers, snug inside their glass houses, continue throwing stones at Michelle.  Which encourages progressive bloggers to lob a few of their own.  Not that there's anything wrong with that.
