Toe-Tapping Larry Craig Introduces Anti-Gay Amendment
In what might be the most bald piece of moral hypocrisy in this or any other political season, Larry Craig (R-Idaho) and Sens. David Vitter (R-La.) are sponsoring yet another federal anti-gay marriage amendment. I mean honestly, do we really need a bathroom toe-tapper and a Pampers wearing fetishist telling other people who they can and cannot love? Progressive bloggers are already lapping this up.
Dan Sweeney at The Huffington Post writes, "Perhaps we should send a message to Vitter and Craig, because obviously, it hasn't hit them yet: You. Do. Not. Get. To. Tell. Us. How. To. Live. Any. More. You lost the right to moralize about the same time you strapped on a pair of adult diapers and/or opened your stance a little too wide. People who moralize lead first by example." (Read it here.)
The Carpetbagger Report correctly identifies this as more right-wing political posturing: "Republicans are looking at the political landscape, and they’re feeling awfully discouraged. The polls look bad, the base looks depressed, and fundraising looks iffy. Rallying the far-right troops with an anti-gay amendment to the Constitution — even though it has no chance at even getting so much as a hearing — might be helpful to the conservative movement." (Read it here.)
Republican lawmakers, not known for their appreciation of irony, should now start writing Ridicule Us on their foreheads.
