While we appreciate Sam Nunn's service to the country and applaud some of his reasoned stances on national security, he is not the person Senator Obama should choose, or even consider, as a vice presidential contender. We're surprised that Nunn is on Obama's short list of possible running mates. Nunn's moderate-to-conservative voting record won't draw any Republicans away from McCain, and it will likely alieanate some Democrats. His record on women's issues is dismal, and his views on LGBT Americans belong in a Walt Becker movie. (Nunn voted against the Employment Non-Discrimination Act and was the author of the military's absurd "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy. More on that here.) We respectfully suggest that Senator Nunn stay in Georgia, where his dogged conservatism is embraced by constituents. He has no place on the Democratic ticket.
